The difference between moissanite and cultivated diamond
There are many differences between cultured diamonds, moissanite, and zircon. Let’s take a look at the differences between the three.

Moissanite is silicon carbide (SiC) Cultured diamond is carbon (C) zircon is zirconium oxide (ZrO2)
Hardness Difference
Diamond is known as diamond. It is very hard, with a hardness of 10. It cannot be scratched by any grinder.
The hardness of moissanite is 9.25, making it the second hardest gemstone.
The hardness of zircon is only 7, so it is easily scratched and damaged.
Humidity test
Blow on the diamond and observe carefully. You will find that the water vapor in zircon diffuses very slowly, while cultured diamond and moissanite are not affected because their surfaces are very smooth and cannot retain water and condensed liquid.
Transparency Test
Draw a black line on paper and place the diamond on it. If you can see the line through the stone, it is zircon. Diamonds and moissanite have more facets and will reflect 100% of the light back, so you can’t see the line behind it.
Magnifying glass distinction
It is difficult to distinguish between moissanite and cultured diamonds with the naked eye. We can prepare a 10x magnifying glass to observe the surface edges of the diamond. The edges of diamonds are clear and sharp, while the edges of moissanite may have double images. In fact, the most obvious difference between cultured diamonds and moissanite is the price. The price difference between the two is very large. If you know a little bit, you will know that the price of one carat of cultured diamonds is more than 1,000 yuan, while one carat of moissanite is only a few hundred yuan. Some merchants will sell them at high prices under the name of “cultured diamonds”.
